As an award-winning author myself I know what it takes to catch the eye of a literary agent and/or publisher and can help you stand the best possible chance of getting your book noticed. I know that submitting your book to a professional editor can be a daunting experience so my aim has been to simplify the process and make it as personal and supportive as possible. When you hire me to work on your book you are hiring my brainpower and lifelong experience in the industry and that’s it. I don’t use AI in the writing of my editorial reports although I realise that you may have used it to help with your writing process (and that’s fine - just let me know).

I offer my editorial expertise on books in any genres, both fiction and non-fiction (I have experience of publishing in both).

To help keep things simple, I offer two different sorts of editorial report: The Editorial Assessment and The Developmental Edit (prices listed below).

The Editorial Assessment

A detailed and in-depth report on all aspects of your writing, from plotting and characterisation through to marketability and how to approach agents/publishers. Suitable for new writers and/or those who have completed a first draft but need some guidance and a general overview of their work before starting the next edit.

Prices based on your book length:

Up to 50,000 words: £500

50-70,000 words: £700

70,000-100,000 words: £900

100,000 words-150,00 words: £1200

The Developmental Edit

 My process for a developmental edit is straightforward - first of all I embark upon a detailed reading of the book, making notations as I go. I then compile a report in which I include various headings, depending on which aspects of your novel I feel need developing the most. I then discuss these particular topics in the report and suggest ways in which things can be improved. There are always ways in which a writer can further develop their plotting, their characterisation and their writing style (so this might for instance include me suggesting how to curb overwriting in order to hone sentence structure and allow a storyline to shine through). I help authors develop more originality in their writing too by looking at ways of subverting stereotypes. I look at structure - whether the novel needs more of it, and how to develop tension and pace in the right places within that structure. Basically, if there are areas which might benefit from being developed further, I will find them and give you the tools to address them with confidence when you come to do your next edit. My aim is for our collaboration to bring out the best in your novel.
